Sarah Marten is a highly experienced careers adviser and writer, with an extensive portfolio of books, case studies and articles to her name. She has worked as a careers adviser with young people in schools across London. Sarah also ran the careers department in a sixth form college and advised adults facing redundancy at the Gillette factory in Isleworth.
Sarah’s writing career started with a chapter in The School Leavers’ Handbook (1984) and she proceeded to write on a wide range of careers for various government publications including the careers handbook Occupations and websites such as Connexions Direct and Jobs4U.
Recent work includes a series of ‘Industry Insight’ case studies for the Creative and Cultural Skills website: www.creative-choices.co.uk. She has also written extensive content on music, jewellery and design careers for this site.
Sarah is also the author of various popular careers books, including Working in Sport and Leisure, Working in Music, Working in Fashion and Clothing and Working in Schools and Colleges (VT Publications). She has also written the content for a website dedicated to young people with special needs: www.harrow4u.co.uk.
Another area of Sarah’s experience has been writing over 60 articles for the recruitment website www.jobs.ac.uk. Her work for them includes articles of general interest to anyone working in a university as well as interviews with academics talking about their work. Sarah has also written a series of articles for this site about working overseas. All these articles make extensive use of Google keywords and have effectively increased traffic to the site.
Sarah has also written the New Scientist’s Graduate Special “What do you want from me?”(September 2014).This involved interviewing numerous top graduate employers about the skills new graduates need.
Sarah is also interested in wider issues such as addiction and has written case studies on gambling for the website www.gamblingwatchuk.org.
